The Legacy of the Boheda Shaktawats

The Shaktawats of Boheda trace their ancestry to Shakti Singh (1540-1594), the valiant brother of Maharana Pratap. In a pivotal moment after the Battle of Haldighati, Shakti Singh saved his brother’s life by slaying two pursuing Mughal soldiers. As a reward for his loyalty and bravery, he was granted vast jagirs (land holdings) and noble titles, marking the beginning of the Boheda legacy.

The Gift of Boheda Residence

In 1848, Maharana Saroop Singh bestowed a prestigious haveli and adjoining plots to the Boheda family. This historic residence had previously been home to the renowned British political agent and historian, Colonel James Tod. To this day, the descendants of the Boheda Shaktawats continue to reside in this ancestral abode, preserving its grandeur and significance.

The Rise of Boheda Under Rawat Nahar Singh

A defining moment in Boheda’s history came in 1897 with the succession of Rawat Nahar Singh. Unlike his predecessors, he chose to reside in Boheda, significantly improving its administration and finances. By eliminating corrupt officials and addressing long-standing issues, he restored the estate’s prosperity.

An accomplished horse breeder, rider, and hunter, Rawat Nahar Singh left behind a legacy of leadership and resilience. Upon his passing in 1939, his son, Narayan Singh, took over the reins of Boheda. Educated at Mayo College, Ajmer, Narayan Singh went on to serve Maharana Fateh Singh at a young age, gaining early experience in estate management.

The year 1947 brought India’s independence, altering the fate of princely states and noble estates. With the democratic formation of Rajasthan, the feudal system dissolved, and in 1952, Boheda's jagir, along with others, was officially resumed. The nobles were compensated with land allotments, marking the end of an era.

A Vision for sustainability - Boheda has embraced sustainable living, with Mahendra Prakash being one of the first residences, after HRH properties, to adopt solar-powered hot water systems. This pioneering step reflects the family's commitment to environmentally conscious living.

Architecutural Evolution - The architectural heritage of Boheda reflects its evolving history, with structures from the 1950s and 1960s serving as the family’s residences. These buildings stand as a testament to the enduring spirit of the Boheda Shaktawats, blending tradition with modernity.
